The Sparco MS-4 Mechanics Overalls, SKU 002020, are entry-level workshop overalls in a poly-cotton mix construction, priced for workshops, club teams, and operators who need to equip multiple people at a practical cost. They carry no FIA or fire-resistance approval and are not suitable for use in a live pit lane or any fire-risk working environment. At £61, they are the most accessible overalls in our Sparco mechanics range.

The poly-cotton outer fabric is durable enough for sustained mechanical work and responds normally to machine washing, which matters for overalls used five days a week. An elasticated lumber panel at the lower back provides the same flexibility as higher-specification overalls when bending over an engine bay. Discreet hip pockets, a covered zipped chest pocket, and two pen and tool sleeves on the left forearm provide practical storage without adding bulk. The zipped main entry has a covered placket and the collar uses a Velcro strap rather than a button.

Sleeve cuffs are elasticated for a snug fit inside gloves, and the ankle flaps open for easier boot fitment and close once the boot is on. The MS-4 is available in red, grey, black, and blue across sizes XS through XXL, making it suitable for team liveries and uniform schemes across a full crew.

For mechanics who need the additional durability of reinforced elbows and removable kneepads, the MS-5 Overalls at £87 offer those features in the same Sparco mechanics range.

Crew and mechanics wear size guide

Pit and workshop kit is sized on the same ladders as driver kit, so if you already know your race suit or glove size you know this too. The one thing to watch is that overalls come in two systems: Sparco use letters and OMP use the numeric ladder.

Mechanics overalls are meant to be roomierUnlike a race suit, you want room to crouch, reach and kneel in these all day. If you are between two sizes take the larger one, which is the opposite of the advice for a driving suit.

Gloves

Measure around your knuckles, across the widest part of the palm, leaving the thumb out.

Sparco and OMP agree within half a centimetre throughout. A mechanics glove should be a little looser than a driving glove so you can get it on and off quickly with dirty hands, so if you are on a boundary take the larger.

Shoes

The Sparco Fast and Chrono mechanics shoes use the standard Sparco ladder. Measure heel to longest toe, standing, and work from the bigger foot.

The Alpinestars Radar V2 mechanics shoe uses the Alpinestars ladder instead, which carries half sizes Sparco does not: UK 7 is an EU 40.5, UK 9.5 is an EU 43.5 and UK 11 is an EU 45.5. Go by the UK size on that one. It also runs up to UK 14.

Shorts

The Sparco Bermuda cargo shorts run S to XXL on the same letter bands as the overalls above, sized on your waist rather than your chest.

A note on approvals

Some of this category is FIA 8856-2018 approved and some is not. The Sparco Tide Meca and R-Meca gloves, the OMP Pro Mech gloves and the Sparco Fast and Chrono shoes carry the driver-standard approval, which matters if you are working on a refuelling stop. The Workshop EVO gloves, the cargo shorts and the MS-4 and MS-5 overalls are workshop kit. The approval is listed on every product page.

What size should I order?
Sizes run from XS to XXL. Crew kit gets worn over normal clothes for long days, so if you are between sizes, take the larger one for comfort. Ask us if you want measurements checked before ordering.

Is this fireproof?
No, this is workwear rather than homologated fire-resistant kit. It is right for the workshop and general paddock duties; for refuelling or live pit work in series that require it, look at the FIA 8856 crew garments in the range.

How do I wash it?
Cool and gentle, no bleach or fabric softener, air dry. That preserves any fire-resistant treatment and keeps embroidery and badges in shape season after season.
